Using my bike during the Olympics will be a no brainer. Whether you ride, bus or tube this new Olympic travel advice website from 'Get Ahead of the Games' indicates when certain areas are likely to be busier due to the Olympic timetable. Worth a look for any commuter or Olympic visitor!

Yes, it has been great being able to filter through traffic on a bike when cars are stationary. But the French interior minister, who does not seem to understand motorcycles, has decided that the practice must stop. Filtering is illegal! Motorcycles must queue with the rest of the traffic.

Senseless nonsense, of course and one of the things that “Motardes en Collere” (Angry Motorcyclists) are demonstrating about.

Just a comment: Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet isn’t from the green party at all. She’s actually close to Nicolas Sarkozy, and his current spokesperson in the presidential campaign. This particular measure sounds like more of a show-off “see-how-active-we-are” measure, something the current government has been doing a lot… But otherwise “NKM”, as she’s nicknamed, was one of the few in her party who were not too bad at their job. She’s far from an idiot, and way more progressive than her colleagues — not surprising as she’s also one of the youngest. Too bad they didn’t give her much freedom to actualy push her own ideas…

Well said Ant,
Do you know that bikers who are members of the riders rights groups in the UK amount to just 1%.
I never in my wildest dreams thought that I’d be in the 1% bracket.
You have obviously signed the Motorcycle Action Group petition as I have, unfortunately only 7,036 Bikers / Motorcyclists can be bothered to sign it. I can’t understand why more haven’t signed. “IT’S FREE TO SIGN EVERYONE”. the closing date to sign this is April the 9th at 08.45. The response to this petition is PATHETIC, and lets down not only the UK bikers, but is a slap in the face to the French bikers. Please Please Please sign this petition NOW, or as Ant correctly said, “No use crying after the horse has gone” Here is the link to the petition, and when your done, send this link to as many biker friends has you can think off, and get them to do the same.
Lets help, not only ourselves to combat this rubbish, but the 90,000+ French bikers who do get off their asses, and stand up and fight to stop,not only what they believe is stupid and unnecessary regulations, but a threat to their way of life. 40,000 bikers in the UK protested all over the country last year staging a go-slow for an hour about the planned new EU regulations on biking and got virtually sod-all coverage in the national media and little interest from MPs and MEPs.

If they won’t listen to us when we organise protests which don’t disrupt other road users, clearly we need to be more forthright…

Holy cow !! In Frankfurt Germany we call it a great success when we round up about 300 bikers to open the new season and 2500 in the region to demonstrate for some demands…. but 90.000 is TOP !! Chapeau!!

VIVE les motards Français. That’s how a demonstration should be done. Well done to each and every one of you that turned up to fight for your right to ride your bike, how you see fit. It’s just a shame that so many so called, ” Motorcyclists”, are still burying their heads in the sand in with the same old excuse, ” Oh that won’t affect me “, It bloody well will, if this crap is allowed to spread to other countries. The French bikers are at the forefront of the fight to ride how they see fit. The least the rest of us can do to help them is to join MAG before it’s too late.
One last point, is there a website that we can bombard with e mails to help the French bikers. I have already signed the MAG petition, but many thousands can’t be bothered. “SHAME ON THEM”
Thank you French bikers for fighting for my right to ride in whatever I see fit.
and, “Thank You to this brilliant website for all your hard work”, where would true bikers be without such dedicated people as these
