Westminster CEOs have a new job!

July 22, 2009

Westminster Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) seem to give themselves the right of taking flyers off parked bikes, as if it was their responsibility to do so. It’s a little bit like Westminster Conservative Councillors who give themselves the right of free parking for their cars, without letting the public know, unless if they ask. A Freedom of Information (FOI) request was put in to Westminster City Council a few weeks ago to find out whether the Council had instructed their CEOs to remove flyers from motorcycles advertising the No To Bike Parking Tax campaign. And guess what the answer was! No, CEOs are not allowed to remove flyers from bikes, although one of them today got caught out by one of our readers, removing a flyer from a parked motorcycle and littering the street, as shown in the video.

We all know very well that removing something that has been left on a parked vehicle is a criminal offence, also known as theft. But some Westminster CEOs don’t seem to mind and, because they work for Westminster City Council, they feel they have every right to do whatever they want. But no, we believe they don’t have the right to touch other people’s property, and Westminster City Council employees are by no means above the law. We wonder what type of training is provided to Westminster CEOs, perhaps they are trained to think outside the box, i.e. take on additional and illegal responsibilities that make them look foolish in public.

Anyway, we are told that a few No To Bike Parking Tax campaigners have put in an official complaint to Westminster City Council against this particular CEO (his details are shown on the photo below). But will a group of Conservative bureaucrates, who have already taken £4 million+ from bikers, going to blame one of their servants for removing a flyer from a bike, designed to spread the word about a bike parking tax that they seem to value so much? Well, we wouldn’t be surprised if this individual received a good bonus from Councillor Danny Chalkley, taken of course from the enormous revenue generated by the bike parking tax during the last 12 months. Have Westminster City Council not recently announced that they’re looking for ways to reinvest the £4 million+ taken from bikers, who are keen to do their bit to reduce road congestion and air pollution? Or perhaps, Councillor Chalkley will want to have a nice conversation with this CEO as, quoting his own words“our aim has always been to work with organisations and have a quiet word with those we catch littering rather than rely on our legal powers, but enough is enough. We will not allow this situation to continue. Offenders are being put on notice, their time is up”. Oh well, whatever he decides to do, we agree that enough is enough, scrap the bike parking tax, enough is enough, its time is up!

We can smell another FOI request coming up very soon to find out the outcome of this incident…
