More misery caused by crap Verrus pay by phone parking system, yet again!

August 30, 2009

A motorcyclist has left a comment on the forum to express their frustration and anger while attempting to renew their Westminster motorcycle parking permit. The following error message came up on their screen when trying to log on the Verrus system from the Westminster City Council’s website:-

Server Error in ‘/Westminster’ Application.

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a “web.config” configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its “mode” attribute set to “Off”.

<!– Web.Config Configuration File –>

        <customErrors mode=”Off”/>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the “defaultRedirect” attribute of the application’s <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!– Web.Config Configuration File –>

        <customErrors mode=”RemoteOnly” defaultRedirect=”mycustompage.htm”/>

Oh well, this is just another example of how bad the Verrus pay by phone system is for motorcycle parking. We wonder who, this time, Verrus are going to blame, BT again? The Verrus pay by phone parking system causes a headache for many of us, not to mention when it doesn’t work while we try to pay on street from our mobile phone (click here for further details).

Needless to remind you all that Westminster City Council, as we have been advised before, will expect you to log on every thirty minutes to check the status of the system, so stop whatever you’re doing, and serve the people who you elected to serve you in the first place!

We now leave you with a quote from a motorcyclist who has recently submitted a Freedom of Information request to Westminster City Council:-

“The [Verrus] pay by phone system is really atrocious and I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with it any more!” (click here to view the source of this statement).

Perhaps it might be a good idea that Verrus CEO Robin Bevan arranges a meeting with Westminster Councillor Danny Chalkley to ask him to stop using the pay by phone system for motorcycle parking, which we believe, has not been designed for this purpose. This might save Verrus some bad publicity going forward.

What more can we say? Perhaps you have something more to say about Verrus? Feel free to leave a comment at the end of this post.

    The Verrus pay by phone system is absolutely awful. I keep having problems with it every time I use it. It’s a nightmare, it often takes me 20 minutes to complete the transaction. It’s just horrible. Westminster City Council have made a huge mistake by using this horrible system.

    Westminster Council have made a huge profit by using this system. Don’t forget you pay not them!

    I tried to communicate with Westminster Council through there website and I have had nothing back from them for about a year now.

    Basically, I requested that they change the phone system to allow you to get from paying daily and weekly to speak with a person to make a longer payment. The system starts by asking for a location number, which if you can’t speak to someone, so you have to hang up and phone again, listen to the whole message and press star or gate I can’t remember to speek to someone! If the system asks for a location number, of course you remove the phone from your ear to enter it and miss the rest of the message.

    This system was set up to catch people out and earn money through parking tickets, not to help you pay.
