3,000+ bikers take over Montreal with up to 25,000 more expected next week!

May 16, 2010

3,000+ bikers protesting in Montreal while up to 25,000 more are expected next week!

Mouvement Escargot, a permanent campaign group recently set up in the French speaking Canadian province of Quebec, organised yesterday a massive demonstration gathering more than 3,000 bikers in Montreal to protest at increased registration fees for motorcycles.

The bikers gridlocked all the major roads around the Quebec capital thus preventing traffic from entering or exiting Montreal and causing enormous traffic jams everywhere. The angry motorcyclists then entered Montreal en masse and gathered just outside the Transport Ministry of Quebec to express their anger at the public authority, that has so far failed to recognise the benefits that bikes bring to the environment, including zero congestion and reduced pollution. The Quebec Transport Ministry has decided to introduce higher registration fees for motorcycles in a pure attempt to discourage their use, claiming that they represent a more dangerous mode of transport than others. So thousands of angry bikers decided to go down the streets of Montreal and protest en masse.

Mouvement Escargot (snail movement group) is a permanent campaign group that has recently been established in Quebec to fight against the authorities that dare to propose or introduce anti-bike legislation in the French speaking province, which has a community of 186,000 motorcyclists. Each biker imitated the movements of a snail yesterday, riding in circles at the very minimum legal speed and leaving plenty of space between them to cause maximum disruption.

We are amused by the name of the Quebecois organisation that seems to compare the behaviour of angry bikers with snails, while in France and the United Kingdom, the behaviour of angry bikers tend to be compared with that of car drivers, who are forced by the highway code to leave plenty of space between them, while they also take a lot more space on the roads (due to their size) than their fellow motorcycle riders.

Quebec has something like 186,000 motorcyclists and Mouvement Escargot is planning to organise weekly demonstrations until the motorcycle registration fees are brought down to reasonable levels. The next demonstration, which is expected to be attended by up to 25,000 bikers, is scheduled for next Sunday, 23rd May 2010, in Montreal. The Quebec capital and its surroundings will be completely gridlocked and brought to a total standstill every week, until the local Transport Ministry meets the demands of the bikers.

As French nationals for whom protesting forms part of our culture, we can only support our Quebecois cousins in what they’re doing. Not only do the French love the Quebecois, but they support them in almost everything they do, and vice-versa. With so many French people living permanently in or visiting Quebec and so many Quebecois living in or visiting France, the love relationship between the two nations has never been so strong.

VIVE LE QUEBEC, LA FRANCE EST AVEC VOUS!

We have found a video broadcast that reports yesterday’s bikers demonstration in Montreal in English, so take a look at it and applaud the French Canadian bikers for standing up so well against the authorities, like their French cousins do too in France!

Well Done mes amis! Vive L’Escargot!!

The arrogance of these fucking politicians is breathtaking! Who are these useless clowns to decide that motorcycles ‘represent a more dangerous mode of transport than others’??
Whether they do or not LET THOSE WHO RIDE DECIDE!

Ice Hockey is more dangerous than table tennis. Perhaps you should scrap the NHL and all watch ping-pong…
