Westminster Council will never get it right for the bikers, will they?

August 15, 2010

It’s August 2010, things are rather quiet while a large number of bikers and public authority representatives have gone away to enjoy their summer break.

While reviewing the past events that marked the continued bikers’ fight against the motorcycle parking tax in the central London borough of Westminster, we particularly enjoyed watching the two short videos below that must be deeply embarrassing for Westminster City Council and their contracted company, NSL Services, in charge of enforcing parking regulations in the borough.

In April 2010, as a fully trained NSL Services parking warden became rather aggressive at a motorcyclist, another member of the public, who was having a coffee in a shop around the corner, started to film the warden as evidence of his unacceptable behaviour. The warden assumed that he was only being photographed, not filmed, and was then caught out saying “don’t be taking my picture man, go and take your wife’s picture, yeah go and give that to your wife, because I’ll be f*cking her soon”. That’s basically how Westminster Council treat their customers these days, that is with no respect. While making the daily lives of motorcyclists a nightmare with the Council’s contracted Verrus (now Paypoint) pay by phone parking system, which forces bikers to hold a mobile phone in one hand and a credit/debit card in another in freezing temperatures and/or the pouring rain, while shouting their bank details out in the middle of the street, they end up being insulted and threatened by uneducated parking wardens.

The second video that we have enjoyed watching is one that was put together by our fellow Nutsville bloggers to show that Westminster’s bike parking tax is nothing but a pure attempt to raise revenue for the council. The video’s title “All they wanna do is take your money”, says it all really.

Fancy joining the fight against Westminster City Council’s motorcycle parking tax? Then join the No To Bike Parking Tax campaign group every Wednesday morning and evening when motorcyclists, in response to being charged to park like cars, ride their motorbikes and scooters like cars and cause massive congestion all over central London. They will not stop doing this until Westminster City Council finally scrap their bike parking tax. So long as Westminster City Council treat motorcycles like cars, the same motorcycles will behave like cars, simple.

Every Wednesday, meet at Villiers Street, London WC2, at 7.30am (8am departure) and 5.30pm (6pm departure) and ride your motorbike or scooter as you would drive a car, in line with Westminster Council’s expectations.

Please join and support the campaign to stop Westminster Council from stealth taxing motorcyclists to park before their scheme spreads all over the UK and the rest of Europe. For further details, visit
